Elementary schools host multicultural nights
Garden City and Palmer Lake elementary schools hosted multicultural nights in May to share with students the wide array of different cultural traditions that make up their respective schools.
At Garden City, event attendees could enjoy seeing an Aztec dancing group, participating in a community drum circle, playing games from different cultures and creating craft projects such as a Kumihimo braid from Japanese culture and Ojos de Dios from Mexican culture. Other highlights included a variety of cultural foods to try, a Somali dance performance and a fashion show.
At Palmer Lake, attendees could take in a variety of activities such as world map trivia, an Achi game from Ghana, Native American games, Henna tattoo artists, art projects from different cultures, and performances such as a fashion show, dragon dancers and a drumming and dancing show. The festive event also included cultural foods and an outdoor deejay for students and their families to enjoy additional music and dancing.
